How It Began
The concept of the Greater Newbury Elder Pet Fund began in 2013 by local Animal Control Officer, Carol Larocque, after witnessing first hand pet owners in our area in need of assistance to care for their beloved pets. Many were elderly and were forced to make difficult choices for their furry companions due to financial hardship.
Throughout Carol's career she often dug into her own pocket to contribute monetary support to those in need. As word spread of Carol's personal generosity, caring donors stepped up to support her cause and in 2015 the Elder Pet Fund was officially created under the First Presbyterian Church as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
The program has now expanded to not only assist with crucial veterinary care but also to provide pet food, which is distributed weekly through the First Parish Newbury Food Pantry.
